This paper reports a novel technique to synthesize new images from two orig
inal views snapped by a weakly calibrated perspective camera. The synthesis
process is based on disparity interpolation and rectification and it requi
res neither 3D-scene information nor additional constraints from the two or
iginal views. Two algorithms are proposed: direct disparity interpolation (
DDI) and projective basis generating algorithm (PBGA). Experiments show tha
t the synthesized wire-frames are physically valid. (C) 2000 Published by E
