S. Yamamoto et al., Determination of efficiencies of complex-formation and light-emitting steps in mercury-photosensitized luminescence, PCCP PHYS C, 2(3), 2000, pp. 335-338
The Hg(6 P-3(1))-photosensitized luminescence of amine (AM)-alcohol (AL) mi
xtures was investigated under conditions of steady illumination at room tem
perature. The quantum efficiencies of the luminescence from the HgAM* compl
ex for AM-AL mixtures were found to be much larger than those for pure amin
es. This finding was explained by the efficient formation of HgAM* complexe
s through the ligand-exchange reaction, HgAL* + AM --> HgAM* + AL, in a pre
vious paper; From the quantum efficiencies of luminescence for amines, alco
hols and AM-AL mixtures, the efficiencies of complex-formation and light-em
itting steps could be determined separately. The rate constants for radiati
ve and non-radiative processes from the exciplexes were determined for the
first time.
