Functionalized 1,3-disilacyclobutanes (RSiX-CH2)(2) have been prepared
by protodesilylation of aminosubstituted 1,3-disilacyclobutanes with
triflic acid and by conversions with nucleophiles. The ring-opening po
lymerisations of these compounds lead to novel high molecular weight p
oly(silylenemethylenes), which are characterized by a linear structure
and alternating silicon and carbon atoms in the main chain. The hydro
silylation reaction between the poly(silylenemethylenes) (RSiH-CH2)(n)
and (RSiVi-CH2)(n) results in a polymer network which may serve as an
interesting preceramic material. The structures of the polymers were
proven by NMR spectroscopy (Si-29,C-13, H-1).
