Abstract
A. butyracea seeds are recalcitrant. The seeds were found to be sensitive t o moisture loss. Moisture content below 25% resulted into loss of viability . Rapid decline in seed viability due to moisture loss was accompanied by r eduction in soluble protein and carbohydrate content. The storage of seed w ith pulp at 3 degrees C was found to be effective in slowing the metabolic activity of seeds. Storage condition tried in the present study could not p rovide seeds of A. butyracea a shelf life of more than 20 days.
