Abstract
Congenital hypotrichosis, with nearly complete anodontia, was observed in t wo male German Holstein calves. The pedigree of the probands, being materna l half-sibs, proposed the hypothesis of a monogenic, X-linked recessive mod e of inheritance. The feeding of concentrate feedstuffs to an affected anim al resulted in no growth retardation. Chromosomal Xq-deletions were not det ected. Microsatellite genetic marker analysis did reveal an exclusively joi ns genomic region on the long aim of the X-chromosome among the affected ca lves. The putative location of the gene locus for congenital hypotrichosis, with anodontia, maps on to the region of the marker BM4604 at position 76. 5cM of the X-chromosome.
