Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) was applied to detect elements
in different liquids (water and oil). Spectra of plasmas generated by focus
ing the second harmonic lambda = 532 nm of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser on the liq
uids' surfaces at atmospheric pressure were recorded. Calibration curves fo
r chromium in water and in oil were obtained, and detection limits were ded
uced.
