A new tungsten sulfide(designated as WS-L) with intercalated cetyltrimethyl
ammonium surfactant cations was prepared under a mild hydrothermal conditio
n, and the product was characterized by IR IC-P, SEMI TEM, XPS and TGA. Sod
ium tungstate and thioacetamide were used as the tungsten and sulfur source
s respectively, whereas the template was cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. XR
D and TEM results reveal that the compound has a lamellar mesostructure wit
h an interlayer distance of 2.925 nm. The empirical composition of the indi
vidual inorganic layer is [WS3.5](2-) and the negative charges on the layer
are balanced by the surfactant cations intercalated between two adjacent l
ayers.
