Polyoxotungstates with propyl methacrylate functionalities and ethyl methac
rylate were copolymerized in acetonitrile leading to the formation of netwo
rks whose swelling properties have been studied in several organic solvents
. The polyanions ensure the cross-linking of poly(ethyl methacrylate) chain
s and are therefore an integral part of the covalent structure of the gels.
This synthetic route to achieve the preparation of polyanion-containing po
lymeric materials differs from those studied up to now.
