Abstract
Special stains are used in the evaluation of bone marrow specimens to augme nt Wright-Giemsa preparations. This article details the common cytochemical stains available, and discusses their clinical use as indicators of hemato poietic lineage. Iron and reticulin stains, which are widely used in the ge neral evaluation of the bone marrow, are also reviewed.
