Abstract
Cell viability requires accurate chromosome segregation at mitosis. The spi ndle checkpoint ensures that anaphase is not attempted until the sister chr omatids of each chromosome are attached to spindle microtubules from opposi te poles. The checkpoint mechanism involves a signal transduction cascade t hat is more complex than was originally envisioned.
