The crystalline structure and magnetic properties of CeCr2Si2C have been in
vestigated. The CeCr2Si2C crystallize in a CeMg2Si2-based structure (a vari
ant of the ThCr2Si2-type) although its parent CeCr2Si2 does not exist. The
tetragonal unit cell has the dimensions a=4.014 Angstrom, c=5.287 A. The at
oms occupy the following positions (space group P4/mmm): 1Ce in 1(a) 0,0,0;
2Cr in 2(e) 0,1/2,1/2; 2Si in 2(h) 1/2,1/2, z with z=0.224(6), 1C in 1(b)
0,0,1/2. In the temperature range from 300 to 600 K, the susceptibility var
iation of CeCr2Si2C follows a Curie-Weiss law with an effective magnetic mo
ment of mu(eff) = 2.83 mu(B), and a paramagnetic Curie temperature of theta
(rho)=-299 K. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
