Abstract
A twenty-eight-year-old weekend athlete twists his right ankle playing touc h football. He is a computer analyst with few requirements for walking duri ng his work day. Upon presentation to the emergency room, examination revea ls mild swelling over the lateral ankle without any skin abrasions. The pat ient has both medial tenderness over the joint line and lateral tenderness over the distal fibula. The initial x-rays (Fig. 1) and postreduction films in a splint (Fig. 2) are shown. How would you manage this patient?
