The numerical aspects of a micromechanical model for a viscoelastic cohesiv
e zone are discussed herein. The cohesive forces encountered in the region
ahead of a crack tip are represented by a damage dependent traction-displac
ement law which is both history dependent as well as internal variable-type
. An incrementalized form of this traction-displacement law has been integr
ated numerically, and an example problem has been solved to demonstrate the
efficacy of the model.
