52 cases of high comminuted fractures of long bones of small animals are de
scribed. In all cases bone sutures were used to reconstruct the bony struct
ures. In all cases the postoperative alignement of the bone axis was correc
t.
In 48 cases a neutralisation plate was used. 36 of these 48 patients were c
ontrolled until complete healing, in 27 cases the final control was a clini
cal and radiological examination in the hospital, in 9 cases the final cont
rol was a client communication. In 34 of these 36 cases the healing was une
ventful, in two cases there was an implant failure. There was no radiologic
al evidence of any bony reaction due to the bone sutures. In 4 cats bone su
tures were the only method of fracture fixation. This can be done in specia
l indications.
