Abstract
Three young dogs developed a necrotizing glossitis after contact with the p rocessional pine caterpillar. The tongue necrosis is due to a toxin release d from the urticant hairs of the caterpillar The disease is only seen durin g spying in dogs who stay in endemic areas of the caterpillars. One dog recovered after symptomatic therapy. The other two dogs had persist ant swallowing problems which immediately disappeared after resection of th e necrotic tissue.
