Abstract
We show how the electronic states of quantum wires and quantum dots can be evaluated exactly starring from the profile of the nanostructure observed b y transmission electron microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy and atomi c force microscopy. The calculated quantization energies reproduce the ener gy position of the luminescence resonances in the optical spectra of differ ent samples, without fitting parameters.
