Abstract
We study some simple one dimensional quantum mechanical systems characteriz ed by a position dependent effective mass. We consider two systems with pie cewise flat potential and mass. as well as a case with a smooth position de pendence on these two quantities. These examples illustrate the influence t hat a non-constant effective mass has on the density of the (bound state) e nergy levels.
