mu-Oxobis[(2,5-dimethylbenzenesulfonalo)tri-p-tolyantimony(v)] was prepared
by the reaction of 2,5-dimethylbenzenesulfonic acid with tri-p-tolylstibin
e in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. According to X-ray diffraction data
, the linear O bridge links two Sb atoms having a trigonal bipyramidal conf
iguration. The 2,5-dimethytbenzenesufonate group and the bridging O atom oc
cupy the axial positions and the three tolyl substituents are equatorial. T
he Sb(1)--O--Sb(2) and O--Sb--O angles are 180.0(0)degrees and 177.2(1)degr
ees; the Sb-C(Ph)(eq) Sb--O(SO2Ar), and Sb--mu-O distances are 2.090(5)-2.0
95(6), 2.258(3), and 1.9361(5): respectively.
