B. Prithiviraj et al., ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF ANACARDIC ACID, A NATURALLY-OCCURRING DERIVATIVE OF SALICYLIC-ACID, Canadian journal of botany, 75(1), 1997, pp. 207-211
The antifungal activity of anacardic acid and two of its derivatives w
as tested against some plant pathogenic fungi and the inhibitory effec
t was compared with that of salicylic acid. Anacardic acid was found t
o be most effective and it inhibited Colletotrichum capsici spore germ
ination at 125-150 mu g mL(-1). The results suggest that salicylic aci
d with appropriate structural modifications may prove to be a superior
antifungal agent and can be utilized in controlling certain plant dis
eases under field conditions.
