Abstract
To investigate whether some of the MMPI-2 basic and/or content scales measure the factor structure represented by the Big-Five, 288 undergra duates (178 women and 110 men), between the ages of 18 and 34 years, w ere administered MMPI-2 and MARS (Michill Adjective Rating Scale) whic h measures four factors that are conceptually similar to the first fou r of the Big-Five. It was hypothesized that (a) three MMPI-2 scales (b asic Depression or D, content Anxiety or ANX, and content Depression o r DEP) would be correlated with MARS Unhappiness; (b) two MMPI-2 scale s (basic Social Introversion or Si and content Social Discomfort or SO D) would be correlated with MARS Extraversion; (c) two MMPI-2 scales ( content Anger or ANG and content Type A Behavior or TPA) would be corr elated with MARS Assertiveness; and (d) two MMPI-2 scales (content Wor k Interference or WRK and supplementary Dominance or DOM) would be cor related with MARS Productive Persistence. Results corroborated the hyp othesized relationships between the components of the aforementioned f our dyads.
