The stabilization of carbenium ions by an adjacent organotransition metal m
oiety has been evaluated using the classical Deno's method as well as a new
procedure based on DCI-MS spectrometry. The ability of transition metal cl
usters to enhance the stability of a proximate carbocationic center in 17 a
lpha-alkynylestradiol-[OM] derivatives {[OM] = Co-2(CO)(6); Co-2(CO)(4)(dpp
m); Mo2Cp2(CO)(4); M-3(CO)(10), M = Ru, Os; HRu3(CO)(9)} has been related t
o their capacity to inactivate the estrogen receptor (affinity marker prope
rties).
