Am. Case et al., Successful twin pregnancy in a dual-transplant couple resulting from in-vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection, HUM REPR, 15(3), 2000, pp. 626-628
There are numerous reports of successful pregnancy following liver transpla
ntation. Little information is available regarding the incidence and manage
ment of infertility in transplant recipients, particularly the use of artif
icial reproductive technologies. We present a case of a successful twin pre
gnancy resulting from in-vitro fertilization with intracytoplasmic sperm in
jection (IVF/ICSI) in a liver transplant recipient, whose partner was a ren
al transplant recipient with severe oligozoospermia. With careful evaluatio
n and monitoring, and the involvement of appropriate consultants, artificia
l reproductive technologies can be safely used in transplant recipient coup
les experiencing infertility.
