Sowing time of chickpea (Cicer arietinum) cultivars under hills zone of Assam

A field experiment was conducted during the winter of 1995-96 and 1996-97 a t Diphu with 2 chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cultivars (GL 86066 and ICCV 8 9314) and 5 sowing dates (October, 15, 30; November, 15, 30 and December, 1 5) to find out suitable cultivar and its optimum sowing time under rainfed conditions. Chickpea varieties 'GL 86066' and 'ICCV 89314' with 9.00 and 8. 57 q seed yields/ha, respectively, were statistically at par in respect of seed yield and yield attributes. Maximum seed yield of 12.59 q/ha was recor ded with 15 November sowing which was significantly superior to other dates of sowing except 30 November.
