Aa. Garcia-granada et al., A new procedure based on Sachs' boring for measuring non-axisymmetric residual stresses, INT J MECH, 42(6), 2000, pp. 1027-1047
Sachs' boring is an established technique for the measurement of axisymmetr
ic residual stresses in cylindrical components. There are however important
cases where non-axisymmetric residual stresses need to be found. In this p
aper a new procedure is developed to measure non-axisymmetric residual stre
sses. The essential feature of the new procedure is the use of a Fourier se
ries to represent the residual stresses. The correctness of the new procedu
re is demonstrated using a finite element simulation where a set of nonaxis
ymmetric residual stresses are determined. Excellent agreement is found bet
ween the predicted residual stresses and those derived using a finite eleme
nt simulation of the new procedure. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All righ
