The impact of the broiler and egg industries on the Texas economy was evalu ated by collecting data from companies via survey forms. The information re ceived was used to estimate the total impact of both segments of the poultr y industry. The information collected will be useful to agencies and groups interested in the impact that these industries have on the communities the y are in and the state in general. The broiler and egg industries employ mo re than 10,500 people directly and create employment for another 31,650 peo ple outside the industry. The total impact of the broiler and egg industrie s on the Texas economy is estimated to be over $1.4 billion with over $91 m illion paid directly to contract broiler growers.
