Different ratios of vanadium pentoside supported on aluminum phosphate (1-3
0 mol%) have been prepared by an impregnation method. The original and calc
ined samples were characterized by TG, DTG, DSC, X-ray diffraction, IR spec
tra, hi adsorption and electrical conductivity measurements. The catalytic
decomposition of ethanol has been carried out at 210 degrees C in a flow sy
stem at 1 atm using air as a carrier gas. The results indicate that the cat
alysts calcined at 400 degrees C were active and selective towards ethene f
ormation whereas the samples calcined at 600 degrees C showed a drastic red
uction in both activity and selectivity. (C) 2000 Society of Chemical Indus
