Abstract
The grass-forming regions in the PbCl2-PbBr2-P2O5 and PbF2-PbBr2-P2O5 syste ms were explored and glasses were prepared and properties measured. Based o n these glass-forming systems, the exploration for glass-forming regions wa s extended to multi-component systems containing amounts of PbO less than o r equal to 15 mol% and/or PbF2 less than or equal to 5 mol% in the PbCl2-Pb Br2-P2O5 based systems. We show that the glass-forming regions in the terna ry systems extended to 30 mol% P2O5. The dissolution rate of the samples in water is in the order of 10(-5) mm/day. These samples have densities in th e range 4.5-5.81 g/cm(3) and have glass transition temperatures in the rang e 146-281 degrees C. The composition of the melted glasses differs from the batch composition, which is caused by the loss of some components during m elting. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
