Spur decay kinetics of the hydrated electron following picosecond pulse rad
iolysis of water have been measured using a time-correlated transient absor
ption technique with an asynchronous mode-locked laser. The 11 us time wind
ow afforded by this signal-averaging technique is ideal to match up with mo
re: conventional transient absorption measurements taken to microsecond tim
e scales. The precise data recorded in this study require a revision downwa
rd of the "time zero" solvated electron yield to approximately 4.0 per 100
eV of energy absorbed, to match the best available scavenger product measur
ements.
