A wide range of sodalite framework materials, M-8[TT'O-4](6)X-2 where T = A
l, Ga, Si, T' = Be, Al, Si, Ge, have been characterized using Al-27, Si-29,
and Ga-71 magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectr
oscopy. Structural parameters, such as functions of the framework T-O-T' an
gle, correlate linearly with the determined chemical shift values and provi
de relationships, as a function of T', which will facilitate characterizati
on of more complex zeolitic compounds containing such species. The effects
of changing a particular neighboring framework cation on the resonance posi
tion is controlled by variations in both framework bond angles/distances an
d electrostatic effects, these contributions are resolved.
