Abstract
When the alkoxide precursor to Synroc is heated to 800 degrees C in air, a cubic oxide is formed. This phase is shown by X-ray and neutron powder diff raction to have the fluorite (a = 4.99 Angstrom) rather than the pyrochlore structure. This has important implications for waste encapsulation.
