Hepatoblastoma is a rare hepatic tumor that develops most commonly in juven
ile domestic animals and humans.
Hepatoblastoma can be associated with paraneoplastic syndromes such as eryt
hrocytosis.
Histologic examination of affected hepatic tissue provides the only definit
ive method for diagnosis of hepatoblastoma.
Concentrations of alpha-fetoprotein in serum or affected hepatic tissue may
serve as a tumor marker but cannot be used alone to confirm a diagnosis of
hepatoblastoma.
