Abstract
The analytical Thomas-Fermi-Dirac model is developed for large metal cluste rs containing hundreds of atoms, within the framework of the jellium approx imation. Multiple ionization of these clusters by a superintense laser fiel d is considered as the above-barrier decay using classical H. Bethe's appro ach. The ionization degree of a cluster is derived as a universal function of the laser intensity.
