Abstract
The influence of mineralogy on microwave assisted grinding is elucidated De tailed mineralogical analysis of various commercially exploited ores was ca rried out and the textural relationships between the individual mineral pha ses established Microwave heating profiles were determined for each constit uent mineral. Each ore was then subjected to microwave radiation for varyin g time periods, and change in work index with microwave exposure time quant ified. It is suggested that increases in grindability of ores after microwa ve treatment are related to the specific mineral species present, particle size of the specific mineral and also the degree of dissemination. Conclusi ons are mane regarding the economic implementation of this technology. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
