In order to test the medium-energy electron cooling system based on modifie
d betatron the design and construction of such a system prototype (MOBY) wa
s started at JINR. Longitudinal magnetic field of 1 kG of the MOBY is provi
ded by the solenoid system surrounded with a magnetic shielding of 8 mm thi
ckness. The solenoids consist of several sections. The single-layer winding
with six copper bars of the "returning current" is placed inside the magne
tic shielding. The bars are isolated and placed inside the slits in the mag
netic shielding. The winding of each solenoid is made of copper pipe with t
he rectangular cross-section 18.5 x 18.5 mm. The design, the technology of
solenoid manufacturing, and the method of the magnetic field measurements a
