Abstract
The theory of filter synthesis using periodically coupled microring resonat ors is developed as a means to overcome the fabrication sensitivities inher ent in conventional higher-order filters, while still achieving desirable s pectral characteristics. Each resonator in the array can compensate for def iciencies in any of the others. These filters exhibit a boxlike shape and v ery high extinction ratios. (C) 2000 Optical Society of America.
