In this paper, we analyze the effect of media coverage on EPA pesticide dec
isions. We hypothesize that media coverage influences the distribution of o
pinions in the general public and that EPA decision makers respond to these
opinions. We develop a revealed preference model that includes media cover
age and public opinion. We test the model by extending the analysis of Crop
per et al. (1992) to include media coverage. We find that the media coverag
e of pesticides has a non-linear effect on EPA pesticide decisions.
