An integral test method has been proposed for evaluating neutron nucle
ar data based on information of spectrum measurements in shielding exp
erimental benchmarks. The method employs a number of different integra
l measurements, two calculation systems, and a systematic analysis pro
cedure to make concrete recommendation for nuclear date evaluation. Th
e scheme is effective to resolve a problem due to specific reaction an
d the energy range in nuclear data. A general procedure for the evalua
tion scheme is described. The method was applied to validate nuclear d
ata in Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library, version 3.1 (JENDL-3.1
), and several essential problems were pointed out for iron. The revis
ion work for JENDL-3.2 was performed by Japan Atomic Energy Research i
nstitute on the basis of recommendations obtained by using the method.
It has been demonstrated that the present method is effective to impr
ove accuracy for nuclear data through a review of the revised iron dat
a in JENDL-3.2. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
