Abstract
This paper presents the theory and practice of object relations couple therapy. It applies Fairbairn's basic object relations theory of pers onality development and Klein's concept of protective and introjective identification to treating the marital joint personality. Clinical vi gnettes emphasizing transference and countertransference illustrate th eory, technique, and therapeutic change.
