Abstract
Supervisory impasses are described within a survey, written from the v antage point of residents in psychiatry, These impasses occurred most frequently between supervisors and residents. We suggest an enhanced f ocus on the recognition and repair of impasses. Recommendations are of fered concerning continuing education devoted to the supervisory allia nce.
