Abstract
The results of twenty-one laboratory-based and field trials on the efficacy of Fipuonil (Frontline(R) Spray and Spot on) against fleas are presented. Effective flea control was observed for both preparations of this product i n dogs for 7 to 17 weeks and for at least 5 weeks for cats, after a single treatment. Fipronil therefore kills fleas rapidly and with a persistent the rapeutic effect. This results in dogs and cats suffering from flea allergy dermatitis exhibiting significant improvements in both pruritus and dermato logical lesions within I to 2 months. Fipronil is effective against immatur e flea stages and kills adult fleas before they lay eggs, thus breaking the life cycle of the flea. Flea eradication is achieved after 3 to 5 monthly treatments without any environmental disinfection.
