Isolation and cultivation of Coxiella burnetii in cell culture

Infection with Coxiella burnetii is frequently associated with abortion in ruminants. It is also the aetiological agent of fever in man and is therefo re a zoonosis. Coxiella burnetii ran be isolated in cell culture. Microbial contaminants are separated by a filtration step. Propagatian of Coxiella burnetii far antigen preparation is performed using serum-free media. The method allows inactivation of the agent by hearing w ithout the problem of protein precipitation.
