Abstract
The concept of organic farming encompasses the ecological methods for both the production of plants and animals. A means of developing a specific meth od of labelling, by right, for the control of foodstuffs requires respect in order to ensure an effective consumer protection. The means for the commer cial development of organic products are varied, and are difficult for cons umers and, to some degree, the food controller's institutions to understand . During 1999, the Federal Republic of Germany created united and independe nt means of indicating plant and animal products organically produced, usin g a sign indicating the origin. This new Control Seal provides art assured indication of the production method and the place of origin for the consume r. It also provides for the wholesaler and retailer, a means of differentia ting such products from those produced conventionally.
