Abstract
The current report shows that the Lazaret Bay (Toulon Harbour) is high ly contaminated by polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Fourteen PAHs hav e been detected among the 16 species nominated on the EPA priority lis t in an the study locations and in the most contaminated one at a conc entration of higher than 48 mu g g(-1) of dry sediment. It is also sho wn that pyrolytic origin is the main source of these compounds in Medi terranean coastal sediments. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
