Orphan drugs in veterinary medicine.

The availability of veterinary medicines in the European Union becomes a ma jor problem for food producing animals because a lot of substances will be lost at the end of this century. These substances, named orphan drugs, are actually considered by the interested parties. This paper presents the back ground of this situation and the solutions proposed to improve the availabi lity of medicines in the European Union, faking into account the particular situation in Belgium.
