By the time this paper appears, you will either not be here to read it, or the disaster postulated by rite 'prophets of doom' never happened. This pap er hopefully aims to try and bring the Year 2000 problem, or millennium bug , into some form of perspective and ask the question, 'Could this problem h appen again?' For the past couple of years there has been a major concerted effort by alm ost every company in the world to determine, and if necessary correct, comp uter code that could not cope with the 1999 to 2000 century or millennium r ollover - the so-called millennium bug.
