Abstract
We study stability of optical gap solitons, close relatives of spinor solit ons of nonlinear classical held theory. The analysis of the associated line arized eigenvalue problem demonstrates the existence of a cascade of oscill atory and translational instabilities. The numerical technique involved is a combination of the Fourier transform and continuous analogue of Newton's method. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
