Dm. Klieger et Kk. Siejak, DISGUST AS THE SOURCE OF FALSE-POSITIVE EFFECTS IN THE MEASUREMENT OFOPHIDIOPHOBIA, The Journal of psychology, 131(4), 1997, pp. 371-382
Why many people who self-report high levels of fear on the Snake Anxie
ty Questionnaire (SNAQ; Klorman, Weerts, Hastings, Melamed, & Lang, 19
74) do not show subsequent behavioral fear was investigated. Fear and
disgust among 70 female undergraduates were assessed by self-report, b
ehavioral ratings, and behavioral approach measures. The results sugge
st that the observed discordance occurs because the SNAQ is strongly c
onfounded by the emotion of disgust.
