Ra. Giacalone et al., MOTIVATION FOR AND PREVENTION OF HONEST RESPONDING IN EXIT INTERVIEWSAND SURVEYS, The Journal of psychology, 131(4), 1997, pp. 438-448
Exit interviews and surveys (EIS) provide unique opportunities for org
anizations to collect diagnostic information. Although the EIS process
may be open to unethical response distortion by exiting employees, th
ere have been few scientific inquiries into the reasons far such disto
rtion. The present study was an attempt to identify these reasons. The
results indicate three factors that can motivate honest responding (p
ositive equity, capricious reasons, and negative equity) and three fac
tors that fan prevent honest responding (negative consequences, person
al and situational reasons, and objectivity).
