Abstract
The pulse conversion characteristics of an interferometric wavelength conve rter using XPM in SOA and the influence of the ASE on the conversion proces s are analyzed in the time domain. The variations of the output extinction ratio without and with ASE are obtained for different SOA lengths and probe -power split ratios. Fro the extinction ratio variation for the input signa l power level, the optimized operating condition for a small ASE noise effe ct is discussed. The influence of the ASE on the extinction ratio of the co nverted signal as function of wavelength- conversion bandwidth is also obta ined. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
