Abstract
We have treated tl,ree patients with mushroom poisoning in our community in the last 25 years. All of them had a long prodromal period with gastrointe stinal symptoms before developing acute renal failure accompanied in two ca ses by rises in serum transaminases. All three patients recovered normal re nal function. Judging by the clinical features, the delayed onset, the pati ents' description of the mushrooms consumed, the area which they were picke d, and the time of the year we believe, that the mushrooms were Amanitas. I n this article we discuss the symptoms, the treatment and die toxin agents of the best known poisonous mushrooms.
